CARRIE C.L. HARPER CELTIC KNOT KNIFE & SPOON Scotts Mirror STERLING SILVER 1980sA two (2) piece lot of Carrie L. Harper Sterling Silver Flatware with a Braided or Celtic Knot style handle. We are pleased to present this two (2) piece lot of vintage Carrie L. Harper flatware for your consideration. Both pieces have handles that have been described as twisted or braided, appearing like Celtic Knots. The April 10, 1995 issue of New York Magazine (page 71) had a picture of a Harper spoon in connection with a benefit sale at the American Craft Museum. Carrie L. Harper is an award winning Silver and Goldsmith who began her professional career in 1983. Since then, she has worked for some of the most noted auction houses in the country, as well as serving as Silversmith to the Georg Jensen USA Stores. She maintains a website at headdesign.co, and additional information about her career and products can be found there.Both pieces of flatware are marked C.L. HARPER and 925. The spoon is also marked STERLING and has a CLH logo. Both pieces also have a small mark that looks like TMc. We date these pieces to the mid-1980’s.Since originally listing this item, we have become aware that Neiman Marcus offers a similar pattern named Scotts Mirror, but done in 18/10 Stainless, not Sterling as these are. (Special thanks to the reader that called these to our attention).Both pieces are heavy and substantial, with the feel of quality. Both pieces have only light surface wear, and are free of any damage or tweaked edges. We rate the condition of both as very good to excellent. You’ll receive the following:Knife. It measures 9-7/8 inches in length and weighs 111 grams. The blade is magnetic and looks like stainless steel. The Sterling handle is quite thick, measuring about 3/8 inch. It has the same pierced look as the spoon, but the handle is actually solid.Spoon. It measures 6-5/8 inches in length and weighs 53 grams. It is made entirely of Sterling Silver, and has a true pierced handle.The combined weight of the two pieces is 164 grams. We estimate that the Sterling content is 100+ grams.
