For your delight, we have an exquisite hand sketched portrait of a young girl holding a little dove.
The artist has drawn this piece with such care and perfection which shows with every little detail. This piece is called “Little Jenny” and she is a lovely young girl with big beautiful ringlets, wearing a sweet eyelet dress. She is gently holding a little dove as if it were her treasured pet.
It is drawn on a piece of bristol board, and has the actual circular embossing in the upper right corner, which reads “REYNOLDS’S BRISTOLBOARD”. We believe this piece to be quite unique with it’s markings, period clothing and age of paper. It must have been drawn in the late 1700’s early 1800’s, can’t know for sure, but what a great find!
This picture came to us framed measuring 16 3/4″ tall by 20 3/4″ wide. It appears to be done in lead pencil with touches of charcoal. The shading is absolutely remarkable which leaves you marveling at how her ringlets look so real with their shine!
The sketch is in great condition, no tears or rips. The frame is made of wood, covered by painted gesso in what looks to be a marble effect in dark brown. It is accented by about 1/4″ of rustic gold in the very center edge. Some chipping had occurred over the years as one would expect with typical aging.
She would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
