We are pleased to offer this antique Photograph Album for your consideration. It has 25 pages with room for 50 photographs. Ours contains approximately 28 photographs and 6 tintypes, all featuring one or two people in each. Quite a few show children, and one of the most interesting tintypes shows a man with an oar in his hand.
Some of the studios that produced the photographs include:
Copeland’s – Cleveland, Ohio
O.R. Wilkinson, Medford, Mass
S.B. Dilley, Lake City, Minn
Chas. F. Turner (?) – Janesville, Wisc
Bundy & Stoddard, New Haven, Ct
C. Homan, New Haven, Ct
The Album is 5-1/2 inches high, 4-1/4 inches wide, and 3 inches thick. It weighs 1 pound 5 ounces. Inside the front cover is a gift notation that reads:
Dec 25th 1875
The Album has leather covers with a Brass Clasp that is in working condition (although it is a tight closure). Covers show wear, especially at edges and along the spine. One of four white decorative trim pieces on the front cover is missing. The inside pages show moderate to heavy wear, with foxing common. Several tape repairs are seen, made both with a heavy fabric tape, while others are done with scotch tape. We rate the Album condition as fair to good (see pictures).
The Photographs and Tintypes are in better condition. Some foxing is seen on the stock surrounding the photographs. Some Tintypes show edge or corner creases, mostly without causing damage to the image. Some small images that we categorize as photographs may actually be tintypes, taped within a photographic cardboard border. Overall, we rate the Photographs and Tintypes as being in good to very good condition.
This is a nice lot of antique Photograph and Tintype images of American origin, with exceptional visual interest. They would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
